Are our prices really this *good*?
Yes! They are indeed. We’ve worked very hard directly with our manufacturers and suppliers and have passed our bulk-buying discounts onto you. We have managed to keep our overheads low, which means we’ve been able to alleviate the high retail shop markups on our products. Shop away and enjoy more pennies in your pocket!
Which Payment Methods are accepted?
We accept payments through our payment gateway, Payfast. PayFast offers two payment options – credit card payment and instant EFT payments. If you pay via Payfast, you will be directed to their site to complete the transactions securely. We also accept normal EFT payments through your online banking service.
How secure is shopping in the Online Shop? Is my data protected?
We do not store any of your banking details on our site! Payfast uses Extended Validation SSL with 256-bit encryption. 3D Secure is also in place for all credit card transactions.
What are the delivery charges?

Where do you deliver to?
Please refer to our Delivery Fees and Map page for the areas our Courier company delivers to.
How long will delivery take?
Delivery takes up to 48 hours from receipt of payment if you are locally based in Cape Town, and up to 5 days if you are in other National and other outlying areas.
Can I select someone to receive my order for me if I’m not available when the Courier delivers?
Yes you can, but please note that we will not accept responsibility for anyone who receives your order at your chosen address, who is not authorised to do so.
Is it possible to arrange a specific delivery time?
Unfortunately we are not able to confirm a specific delivery date or time as we make use of a Courier company.
What happens if there is nobody to receive my order when the Courier delivers to me?
The Courier will make an attempt to call you and arrange a second delivery. After a failed second delivery attempt the Courier will return your order to Desperate Households, where you will be credited for your purchase minus the cost of delivery and the cost of returning the package to us. Delivery will be re-routed at your expense.

What exactly happens after ordering?
Once you have placed your order and payment has been made, either via our Payment Gateway or by EFT, your order will be processed as soon as possible and then dispatched by our Courier company to the address given in the checkout process. Under normal circumstances, the time it takes from when an order is placed until it is dispatched for delivery is approximately 3 working days. For payment by EFT, no dispatch occurs until the money has cleared. All orders paid Monday to Thursday before 2pm and Friday before 11am leave the same day, otherwise next working day in the afternoon. No deliveries will take place Saturdays, Sundays or Public Holidays.
